A perfect first day in Tbilisi

One walkable day that shows the best of the capital, from morning coffee to a view over the lights.

Morning: Liberty Square and the Old Town

Start at Liberty Square (metro Tavisuplebis Moedani) with coffee, then walk down Leselidze Street past churches, a synagogue and the mosque to the domes of Abanotubani.

    Late morning: the sulphur baths

Book a private room for an hour and add a traditional scrub (kisi). It is the best cure for a night flight.

    Lunch: khinkali

Order at least five per person, hold the knot, sip the broth and leave the knot on the plate.

Afternoon: Narikala and the Botanical Garden

Take the cable car from Rike Park to Narikala Fortress and the Mother of Georgia statue, then walk down into the Botanical Garden and its waterfall.

Sunset: Bridge of Peace and Metekhi

Cross the glass bridge and climb to Metekhi Church for the classic view of the Old Town as the lights come on.

    Evening: dinner and a view

Book a table with a terrace or take the funicular to Mtatsminda for dinner above the city. Finish with a glass of Saperavi.
