Where to exchange
Exchange offices ("Valuta") are everywhere in city centres and usually give better rates than banks and much better than the airport. Compare the buy and sell rates on the board; the gap should be small.
Currency
The Georgian lari (GEL, ₾) is the only currency used for payments. Rates load automatically every time you open the page: the official rate of the National Bank of Georgia, with a market rate as backup.

Visa and Mastercard are accepted in most shops, restaurants, hotels, taxi apps and the metro. Carry cash for markets, small guesthouses, village cafés and marshrutkas.
Bank of Georgia and TBC Bank ATMs are common. Choose to be charged in lari, not your home currency, to avoid poor conversion rates.
All prices must be in lari. One lari is 100 tetri. Notes: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 ₾; coins up to 2 ₾.
